Overview

Our Registered Dietitians are trained in the assessment, prevention and treatment of nutrition and nutrition related conditions. They use their expertise to help you make appropriate and healthy food choices so that you can work towards improving your daily nutrition. Healthy eating can
help prevent future health problems and improve symptoms of some chronic diseases.

Goals

It is the goal of our dietitians to assist rostered PEFHT County residents to improve their eating habits so that a better quality of life can be enjoyed at all ages.

Individual appointments can be arranged to review your specific nutritional needs and eating habits. Our dietitians will provide you with the information and support you need to achieve a healthier lifestyle.

Our dietitians can help you to improve your eating habits through:

Education

  • Managing cholesterol
  • Management of hypertension
  • Sodium restriction
  • Weight management
  • Carbohydrate counting
  • Balanced meals

Counselling

  • Individual sessions
  • Focus on specific eating patterns to help manage chronic diseases such as diabetes and congestive heart failure

Access to Resources

  • Canada's Food Guide
  • Information on recommended sodium (salt) intake and calcium requirements for various ages
  • Disease specific nutritional information

Community-Based Workshops

  • Healthy Eating Basics
  • To help develop the skills needed to read product labels
  • To teach how to prepare healthier meals at home
  • Grocery store tours

Advocacy

  • To advocate for better access to healthier food choices in stores and restaurants.
  • To advocate for affordable food access for all
